Verse Dojo -- Field Guide
Memorizing Scripture is easy for a week. This is the part that makes it stick.
Verse Dojo doesn't test you once and move on. Every verse you take on moves through a spaced-repetition cycle -- reviewed just often enough to stay sharp, not so often it feels like a chore. This page walks through exactly how that cycle works, what your Points mean, and everything else on offer: the Reference Quiz, Achievements, and adding your own verses.
If you read nothing else
Check a few verses in the Not Started column and hit Start Training.
Type each one from memory whenever you get a moment -- no timer, no pressure.
Come back on different days. Training needs three separate passing days, not a cram session.
Review when it's due. The Dojo tells you exactly when -- that's the whole system.
Speaking a verse out loud is often faster than typing it, and for longer passages it can be genuinely easier to get right word-for-word. A speech-to-text app turns what you say straight into text for the typing box -- we recommend Wispr Flow. The free version is generally all you need for this, but here's an invite link for a free month if you want to try it: wisprflow.ai/r?TYLER3629.
The core mechanic
This is the Dojo board, left to right. A verse only ever moves forward on a success and never moves backward on a failure -- the goal is to always have a small, honest stack of verses due for review, never a pile of guesswork.
Every verse starts here -- the full starred list, plus anything you've added yourself.
You do: select some, tap Start Training
Type it from memory. Pass on three different days -- not three tries in one sitting -- to graduate.
You do: practice a little, often
On a growing review schedule now -- 2 days, then longer each time you review it on time.
You do: nothing, until it's due
Its interval is up. No penalty yet -- this is just the signal to come review it.
Tap Review All to run through everything in this column in random order, seeing only each reference -- great for learning the references, not just the words. You can skip any verse; it just stays here.
You do: review it, on time counts
Left too long past due. Temporarily worth 0 Points -- one good review brings it right back.
You do: one review, streak is kept
Rusty for a long time. Still fully recoverable -- just restarts the schedule from the shortest interval.
You do: one review, streak resets
Failing a review never moves a verse backward, at any stage -- it just stays exactly where it is and you can try again anytime. Only a successful review ever changes anything. There's never a reason not to try.
How a review is graded
Scored word by word against the reference text. Get most of the words right, in order, and you pass.
Capitalization, punctuation, and minor typos don't count against you. Whether you type an em dash or just a space doesn't matter either.
The grading cares about the words you remembered -- not your keyboard accuracy.
Every on-time review moves a verse one step along this ladder, which is what grows its review interval:
A verse's status text shifts from bronze to silver to gold as it climbs.
The Progress tab
Each mastered verse is worth roughly its word count, plus a bonus for longer connected passages and whole chapters.
A different kind of practice
Knowing a verse and knowing where it's from are different skills. The quiz shows you a verse's text and asks you to name its book, chapter, and verse -- with partial credit for a close guess.
Milestones, not mechanics
Purely for fun -- achievements never touch your Points. Unlocking one earns you a title you can choose to display next to your name in the header. You'll find them on the Progress tab, right under your Verse Points -- tap Show all achievements to see the full list. Rarer ones keep their secret a little longer:
Common -> Rare
Title and requirement both visible from the start -- something to aim at.
Epic
You'll see the title, but not what it takes -- until you've already earned it.
Legendary
Completely hidden -- title included -- until the moment you unlock it. 🏆
Beyond the default list
Anything meaningful to you can join the Dojo, not just the curated list. Add a reference and its text -- there's a toggle for whole chapters so scoring and Points work exactly like the defaults do.
★ A gold star marks a passage as one of the 100 verses every self-respecting Christian should know.
One thing worth knowing
Everything syncs -- sign in from any device and your progress is right there, automatically.
Closing thought
Type the verse from memory. No time limit -- take as long as you need.

🏆 Achievement Unlocked
Check any verses from your Dojo -- the Custom Quiz will cover exactly the ones you pick.
You can select up to 10 verses that you know you have memorized, and we'll move them straight to the Mastered category without making you input them over three days. Choose wisely -- you can only use this shortcut on 10 total passages!
This dojo helps you practice and review memory verses! Select a verse for training from the list (or input your own), practice it successfully for three days, and you get points for mastering it! Let's try it out...
You can come back to John 3:16 later -- it's a good one to memorize! For now, let's try something shorter.
Keep trying! Whenever you're ready, select a few verses in the Not Started column and tap Start Training -- after a successful review on 3 separate days, a verse becomes Mastered.
Two quick details, both completely optional. If you like, they can appear next to your title on the leaderboard -- but only if you switch "Show on leaderboard?" on. Leave them blank or hidden and nobody else will ever see them. You can change any of this later under Account → Settings.
On the leaderboard you'll appear as:
Add your own verse or passage to memorize, alongside the default list. Works with any reference, with or without a verse number -- "Ephesians 6:10-12" or a whole chapter like "Ephesians 6".
Don't include verse numbers or footnote markers -- many Bible sites paste those in by default (e.g. "16For God so loved..." or "world,[a] that"). We'll automatically strip those if they slip through -- check the preview below and fix it by hand if anything looks off.
